Welcome back to the blog of Double Deuce.
Since we are saying adios to home we thought we would reflect a little.

It is funny how things work out in life, I have always been a planner/dreamer. I truly believe that if you think about something enough it will morph it's self into a plan. We always knew that one day we would sail to warmer climates in pursuit of a tropical lifestyle. It feels surreal that our dream has started today.

For the last 8 years we have spent countless hours and dollars (we don't add up receipts....ever) working toward our goal of sailing south. The date has been quickly approaching, work has ended, and the day has come. We have officially left Burrard Yacht Club, North Vancouver to head to warmer climates.

Some of you have heard the story as to the naming of Double Deuce, and some haven't. We are often asked on the docks as we travel around how the name and logo came to be. It was also a popular question at our send off party this past weekend. So here it is:

I was sitting at a poker table one night, your typical scene: late at night, dim lighting, cigar smoke hanging thick in the air. I had been doing quite well when I was dealt a pair of pocket twos, I immediately went all in and won the boat in the process.....Just kidding

Here is the real story:

We have had a two boats called Double Deuce. The first was a 40ft X-Yacht, which we cruised around Vancouver's coast and raced to Maui. The second is our current boat.

I can't take much credit for the name Double Deuce as it was actually Karen's idea.
Karen and I met on the 22nd.
We got married on the 22nd.
The first fire hall I ever worked at was #22 hall.
Our daughter Mandy was born on the 22nd.... you get the idea
It has been a number that frequently shows up in our family, so it seemed very fitting.

We then chose the two of hearts and two of diamonds. The heart is to represent Karen and I. Then the two of diamonds represents a diamond in the rough, something we felt has been fitting for both our boats, but especially our current one as we touched on in our previous post.
It is hard to believe that all our hard work has finally paid off and we have started off on our journey. In the beginning it felt like this day would never come, but here we are.

Thank you to everyone who came out to send us off and we hope to catch up with everyone we missed.
